During our "silent" meditations you're also welcome to listen
to your own guided meditations, or try any of the suggestions below. If you're new to meditation, you can find simple
instructions at NYTimes

Tara Brach
about
is an American psychologist, meditation teacher,
and vegan
advocate.
Her meditations below were recently featured in a NY Times
article
"How to Meditate".
Thich Nhat Hanh
about
(1926-2022) was a Vietnamese Buddhist monk and peace activist who was nominated by
Martin Luther King Jr. for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1967. He advocated
veganism as a means to prevent
violence against animals and the environment. His meditations are traditional,
but keep in mind that when he uses the word "Buddha", he means "awakened one"
and is referring to something that's part of all of us.
Compassion Consortium
about
is a non-sectarian, interfaith organization that offers
monthly spiritual gatherings for vegans, animal advocates, and all who care about animals and the planet.
Many of their meetings include meditation/mindfulness sessions
with animals, one of which we've included below.
Alan Watts
about
(1915-1973) was a British philosopher who said
"I'm a vegetarian because cows scream louder than carrots". And that was well before any type of veg-ism
was popular in the West. Here he leads us through a meditation on sound. The video is 15 minutes, but
the last 5 minutes is just music so can be ended early.
Sadhguru
about
is an Indian yogi who recently received
India's second-highest civilian award for his contributions to social welfare. He has expressed some
unguru-like opinions on the subject in the past, but is now advocating plant-based diet as the diet
most appropriate for the human body.
Will Tuttle
about
is a former Zen monk with a Ph.D. in education from U.C. Berkeley, and
is the author of The World Peace Diet. The meditation here is a visualization / affirmations.

Sam Harris
about
is an American neuroscientist and philosopher
known as one of the "Four Horsemen" of New Atheism. Though not yet vegan, he has said,
"You and I both agree that we are participating in a system [factory farming] that is on some basic level
ethically indefensible... the fact that I participate in [that system] more or less condemns me as a total hypocrite."
He's waking up :)
Tony Robbins
about
was vegan for 14 years. After he started eating fish again, his mercury levels
got so high that doctors thought someone was trying to poison him. Unfortunately he then returned to eating
other animals, but we're saving this space for his return. His short gratitude meditation is beautiful.
Eckhart Tolle
about
has used the
Hitler
defense when questioned about his food choices.
That's
not wise.
However, he is wise in the area of teaching meditation, and
we hope that he one day connects more with the source of all life to which he often points,
and eventually breaks his own
habit of harming.
More coming soon, hopefully :)
